Hole 1 · Gratwanderung
PAR 4 · HCP 16
This dogleg-shaped hole bends to the left over the club’s highest point.
Tailwinds can inflate confidence but two bunkers on the left and one on the right of the knee can soon have players regretting their decision not to lay up.
Those choosing to bypass the bunkers from the tee will have to drive at least 235 metres.
The green is defended by a bunker that curves around the right front side and two on the left.
Most players are advised to tee off with an iron and use a well placed pitch to reach the green!
-
Hole 2 · Beauty & Beast
PAR 4 · HCP 4
This aptly named par 4 hole is simultaneously one of the club’s most spectacular and difficult.
Tee offs under 180 metres will be stopped by a watercourse and those playing too far to the right will need a new ball.
A pond is situated behind the green which greatly adds to the precision of the approach.
-
Hole 3 · Hazadeur
PAR 4 · HCP 12
The drive zone appears relatively wide but long hitters can easily find themselves in either of the bunkers left and right.
The long and narrow green lies diagonally between a bunker on the front left and a small lake behind.
The flag is to be found at the top end which encourages a careful approach and a solid short game!
-
Hole 4 · Cross-Bunkers
PAR 4 · HCP 18
A psychological hurdle for some, there is a pond between the tee box and the fairway of this par 4.
An archipelago of bunkers stretches across the fairway around 220 metres from the men’s tee that convinces most golfers to lay up.
The kidney-shaped green lies atop a plateau and the pond on the right is notorious for swallowing up missed approaches.
-
Hole 5 · Zentralplateau
PAR 3 · HCP 14
Free of water hazards but requiring precision strokes nonetheless, this straight par 3 is located in the middle of the northern links.
A clearly visible bunker in front and to the right of the green shouldn’t pose too many problems but complicates the approach when combined with the two behind and to the left.
-
Hole 6 · Maritim Blick
PAR 4 · HCP 6
The first stage of this par 4 is long and straight with a hedgerow on both sides.
Long hitters considering a short cut over the dogleg will need to drive at least 220 metres if they want to avoid the large pond under the knee.
The second stage runs downhill to a green defended by a large bunker on the right. Avoiding the trench behind the green requires a controlled approach!
-
Hole 7 · Gassenhauer
PAR 5 · HCP 2
The drive has to pass through or over a fairway congestion located around 180 metres from the men’s tee.
Once on the other side, it’s a matter of playing straight through to the green while avoiding a watercourse that cuts through the fairway about where the hedgerow on the right terminates.
Long hitters can attempt to play over the dogleg but the long second stroke is needed to reach the green, making the advantages of such a strategy questionable.
-
Hole 8 · Waterkant
PAR 4 · HCP 10
This short par 4 has no less than three water hazards to contend with.
The first is a pond to the left of the drive zone.
The second is a watercourse that runs from the pond across the fairway meaning players are required to drive a minimum of around 150 metres from the men’s tee.
The third is a small lake on the right side of the fairway that stretches all the way from the middle up to and behind the green.Long hitters attempting to drive over the left side pond will need to achieve a distance no less than 240 metres if they want to clear it.
The headwind that often blows convinces most players to play it safe. Rounding out the obstacles is a bunker on the right side of the green.
-
Hole 9 · Happy End I
PAR 5 · HCP 8
Whether or not the name is appropriate depends on the player.
While teeing off should pose no problem, the second stroke can quickly land players in trouble.
The fairway has a narrow congestion as well as a pond flanking the entire bottom of the green.
Adding to the difficulties are three bunkers spaced evenly around the green and a rocky outcrop poking out of the lower one.
Mastering this attractive hole is extremely rewarding and a fitting end to a challenging round.
